Brother HL-5370DW Laser Printer With Wireless Networking And Duplex

I got this printer after my HP died only 14 months after I purchased it. The HP I owned has virtually the same features as this Brother, but the Brother is about half the price. I love it. I've been using if for about three weeks, and it works perfectly. No complaints. It's a little louder than the HP, but it's not bad at all. Buy Brother HL 5370DW Lowest Price, Order Now! Brother HL-5370DW Laser Printer With Wireless Networking And Duplex

I bought this thinking that I could connect it wirelessly to two laptops in an office. What the sales info fails to mention is that it has to be connected to a printer server or router. Had I known that, I wouldn't have bought it. Frankly, it's too much trouble to return it....

Tech support goes straight to India. They asked for my mailing address 5 times but couldn't answer basic questions.

The wireless setup, if you dare try it, is incredibly confusing. I'm usually pretty good with computer accessories, but I gave up quickly on this one. I guess it's an okay desktop laser printer, but that's not what I bought it for.

Be careful removing the blue packing tape from the machine. I tore a plastic panel right off the unit. That's quality.

If I were to buy again, I would look elsewhere.Buy Brother HL 5370DW Lowest Price, Order Now! [Click Here!]

Brother HL-5370DW Laser Printer With Wireless Networking And Duplex

Purchased: 9/24/2009

PROS: Speed, built-in networking, duplex printing
CONS: Print Noise, setup

The setup for this printer was a little difficult. I only am using the "wired" network interface, not the wireless (so I can't comment on that setup). The printer setup is designed to get the IP via DHCP, but this printer somehow picked an IP already in use (???). It took me a while to determine this problem. I would have to say the answer was found on the manuf. support site. I could see this being a very big issue for someone who does not have a "techy" background. Once I configured it with a fixed IP address, all was fixed.

The only other complaint is this printer is very noisy! It produces much more noise than an HP laser jet I also have.

Over all I'm very pleased! I especially like the ability to print to a network printer - this is great for virtual machines, etc.Buy Brother HL 5370DW Lowest Price, Order Now! [Click Here!]

Brother HL-5370DW Laser Printer With Wireless Networking And Duplex

OVERALL:
Just bought this printer after much deliberation and research. I was mainly an HP person both using their laser at work and inkjet printers at home. I wanted something a bit more economical in the long term than my inkjet, plus I like the sharpness of laser printing and I love double-sided printing. This printer meets all my requirements and it's fast. I worked out that the cost per page based on current cost of the consumables (toner and drum) is about $0.02 (when using the high-yield toner). That's awesome.

SETUP:
Wired set up via USB or Ethernet (Network) is very easy. To set it up wireless was a bit more involved for me (and probably since I'm the type to rarely read the manual). However, after I set it up it's been working flawlessly.

PAGE CURLING:
Some people complain of page curling and I was really concerned about it but I haven't found that to be a problem. Honestly, my HP LaserJet 1320n at work curls more than this thing. Curling is truly minimal when using the correct paper and when it does occur it's easily correctable (turn the pages upside-down and let them "cool down" is my approach).

FOR THOSE WHO WANT BOOKLET PRINTING ON A MAC, PLEASE READ:
One downside is that it does not do booklet printing on a Mac (booklet printing is Windows only), the driver just doesn't support it. However, there are workarounds using 3rd party software & methods that creates the booklet before sending it to the printer. It's not a big deal. One method is to save a document to a PDF using the OS X print menu, open the PDF in the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader and printing the booklet from there since Adobe Acrobat Reader supports booklet printing. The process has an extra step but works perfectly. Perhaps in the future Brother will update the OS X driver. Printing multiple pages per sheet is not an issue.Buy Brother HL 5370DW Lowest Price, Order Now! [Click Here!]
